The Dyfi Valley

From Creiglyn Dyfi to Aberdyfi

Gwersyllfa Glyndŵr Campsite is just 30 minutes' walk from the historic market town of Machynlleth in the Dyfi Valley, and is in Wales' only UNESCO Biosphere. Due to its location and traditional rural industries the landscape is breathtaking and the area's natural habitats diverse.

Machynlleth is within easy reach of Snowdonia National Park, on the bus route to Cader Idris and only a short a train ride from the coast and miles of beautiful beaches.

There are plenty of places to eat out in the area and Machynlleth itself has many interesting independent shops, an Art Gallery, Leisure Centre, grocery stores and a petrol station. Wednesday is market day.

There are also several nature reserves, castles, sites of historic interest and iconic buildings to visit nearby.

Walking

National Trails and Shorter Walks

Newly opened in 2024, the idea for the campsite began whilst chatting with passing walkers and cyclists who needed somewhere to stay. We are at the mid point for those following the 135 miles of Glyndŵr's Way and are also a destination for walkers on the official Wales Coast Path route as sections 3 and 4 intersect in Machynlleth. The Dyfi Valley Way is another popular long distance walkers trail. It follows the north side of the River Dyfi from the estuary to its source on the summit of Aran Fawddwy and back down to Machynlleth on the river's south side.

If you prefer shorter more localised walks there are many to choose from and details of some of these can be found on this interactive digital map at dyfibiosphere.wales

Cycling

Cycle Tracks, Touring and Mountain Biking

Mid Wales has something to offer cyclists of all kinds, and over recent years Machynlleth and the surrounding area has become synonymous with mountain biking and trail riding. We are at the beginning of the Traws Eryri Cycle Trail and at Lon Las's Snowdonia Stage.

Many cycling enduro's and races are hosted here on the farm in Machynlleth each year and we are a stones throw from the 650 acre Dyfi Bike Park with trails built by former GB mountain biking champion Dan Atherton.

Less high octane cycling routes are also nearby, the Mawddach, Ystwyth and Elan Trails are all beautiful scenic rides along disused railway lines.

Nature

Explore reserves, forests and the coast

The diverse landscape of the Dyfi Valley is a mixture of low wet grassland and salt marsh, ancient and conifer woodland, Ffridd and upland. The area's maritime climate, topography and land uses has shaped its natural habitats and these can be enjoyed and explored during your stay.

There are a number of designated wildlife reserves nearby at Ynyshir (4.5 miles), Glaslyn (6 miles), Cors Dyfi (2.5 miles), Abercorris (5.5 miles) and Cwm Cletwr (6.5 miles). At the Cors Dyfi Wildlife Centre and Ynyshir RSPB there are visitor facilities.
